The Bb. Pilipinas 1st Runner-Up and our country's rep to the Miss Supranational pageant in Poland digs flats over heels, and has even been known to don basketball jerseys.

On a normal day, Elaine Kay Moll looks like your typical girl next door. You'd likely find the Binibining Pilpinas 2012 1st Runner-Up with her dark tresses tied in a simple updo, her feet in flats, and her long, slender figure sporting a tee-and-shorts combo. But the moment she waltzes onstage and into the spotlight, this regular chick transforms into the ultimate beauty queen.

You’d be even more surprised to know that, before she gained acclaim as a pageant princess, Elaine Kay was a college basketball star who played for the National University’s Lady Bulldogs in last year's UAAP games. With beauty, brains, and a competitive spirit to boot, you can be sure that, as she represents the Philippines in the 2012 Miss Supranational pageant on September 14, she'll have her eyes determinedly set on the prize.

Before she flew off to Warsaw, Poland yesterday to compete for the title of Miss Supranational, Cosmo.ph got to chat with this basketball-playing beauty queen. Find out what makes the stunning, towering, self-confessed Cosmo girl stand out from the pack by reading our interview below.


You'll soon be flying off to join the 2012 Miss Supranational pageant. In this trip, what are you looking forward to the most?
Aside from the competition, syempre 'yung culture nila [gusto ko] ma-experience. Syempre ang mga kasama ko [doon] iba't-ibang girls from other nations, and I'm willing to learn about them; I'll open myself up to them [para] makilala din nila [ako] as a Filipina.

How different or similar are Elaine the regular chick and Elaine the beauty queen?
When you go onstage, kailangan maging composed, poised. Pero siguro same pa rin naman, pero I think laidback ako eh. [I wear] T-shirts, jeans, shorts, flip-flops, or flat shoes kasi matangakad ako; gustuhin ko man mag-stilettos araw-araw, awkward.

Do you have a different persona that you bring out every time you go onstage?
Yes. And the difference is the added confidence.

How would you describe your everyday style?
Basic ako eh, 'yung parang T-shirt tapos accessories lang, or tube [top], or pants. Ganon lang ako. Simple.

How tall are you?
[I am] 5'11".

When it comes to dressing, what are the pros and cons of being this tall? Do you wear sky-high heels?
Suwerte ako kasi matangkad ako and 'yung structure ko okay. Okay lang mag-heels or mag-flats. Flats siguro para super comfortable. Meron akong sky-high heels pero hindi masyado nagagamit. Hindi ako pwede maglakad-lakad sa mall nang naka-sky high heels, diba!

Basketball shirts [or] jerseys! 'Di naman sila masu-surprise kasi basketball player ako.

Since it's your first time to travel to Europe alone and to compete in an international pageant, what is your message to all the fun, fearless women out there?
Just be yourself and be confident. Believe in yourself talaga na kaya mo 'yun. Kahit ano, basta naniniwala ka, ma-a-achieve mo talaga.
