Want to see your favorite city from a different angle?  Ride the Ferris Wheel!  Up there, it’s a whole different world!  Here are 10 of the best Ferris Wheel rides in the world that you just have to try on your next escape!

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, USA:  Deno’s Wonder Wheel
A trip to the iconic Coney Island Boardwalk will not be complete without a ride on Deno’s Wonder Wheel.  While Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement park has all the classic carnival rides from your childhood (complete with equally iconic theme park snacks), it is also home to the scariest carnival ride of your life.  Here’s why:  while other Ferris Wheels have stationary cars that offer a view of the city, the red and blue cars of Deno’s Wonder Wheel swing back and forth throughout the ride.  As you reach a certain point, they can slide down diagonally to the center as well.  While others find it totally entertaining, one can’t help but tame their nerves until the ride is over and you can safely plant both your feet back to the Earth.  Then again, it offers a great adrenaline rush to those who are brave enough to choose the red and blue cars.

CLIFTON HILL, CANADA:  The Niagara Sky Wheel
Visiting Niagara Falls is one thing.  Getting the best view of the majestic falls is another.  And one of the best ways to take this scenery is to board the famous Niagara Sky Wheel, which is located near the borderline in Clifton Hill.  The Niagara Sky Wheel is 175 feet in height and offers a comfortable right on board its gondolas.  No swinging cars in this one.  Rather, it offers a very relaxing scenic 8- to 12-minute ride.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: The London Eye
There’s a reason why they call it The London Eye.  Because it offers the best view of the sprawling city!  In fact, a trip to London would not be complete without a ride at the famous eye that first opened in the year 2000.  Back then, it was originally called The Millennium Wheel.  We don’t really know what made them change the name but The London Eye seems more fitting and easier to remember.  The London Eye is 443-foot tall.  It is also the city’s fourth highest man-made structure to date.  The London Eye has 32 “capsules”, each one representing London’s boroughs.  One ride can accommodate up to 800 passengers and lasts a good 30 minutes. When the sky is clear, you can see the Windsor Castle from the top.

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS:  The Navy Pier Ferris Wheel
The next time you visit Chicago’s most famous boardwalk, don’t forget to take a ride on the Navy Pier Ferris Wheel.  Located at Pier Park, this ride offers you a different view of the Chicago skyline at 150-feet.  The Navy Pier Ferris Wheel has 40 cars that can give you a glimpse of the Willis Tower (or Sears Towers), Lake Michigan, and the John Hancock Center.  The best time to take the ride is during the sunset.

ATLANTA, GEORGIA:  The Skyview Atlanta
Atlanta’s Centennial Park is home to the famous Skyview Atlanta.  The Ferris Wheel ride has 42 cars where you can enjoy a 15-minute ride which offers a great view of the city.  The Skyview Atlanta is open all year-round but is closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA, USA:  The Pacific Wheel
When it comes to epic Ferris Wheel rides, California will not be left behind.  Los Angeles’ Pacific Park is home to The Pacific Wheel which holds the title of being the only Ferris Wheel in the world that is powered by solar energy.  This 130-feet Ferris Wheel ride completes 2.5 revolutions per minute.  With its 160,000 LED lights, The Pacific Wheel is more than just a ride that offers scenic views of California.  It is a spectacular light show as well.

SINGAPORE:  The Singapore Flyer
At 542 feet, the Singapore Flyer is simply one of the Singapore’s most iconic structures.  In fact, it holds the title of being the world’s largest Ferris Wheel, that is until The Dubai Eye is still under construction.  Each glass car can carry up to 10 passengers.  The 30-minute ride offers great views of the city, daytime and nighttime alike.  Plan to propose?  Why not do it on board the Singapore Flyer?  Yes, you can.  There are themed gondolas at the Singapore Flyer complete with mouth-watering meals you can enjoy with your special someone.

DALLAS, TEXAS:  The Texas Star
The Texas Star first opened its gondolas to the public in 1985.  Almost 28 years have passed and it still enjoys the reputation of being North America’s tallest Ferris Wheel at 21 stories high.  The 45 gondolas of the Texas Star offer a great view of Texas. Despite its popularity, the Texas Star is only open for business during the State Fair of Texas, which takes place from mid-September through mid-October.  So if you want to take a ride on North America’s tallest Ferris Wheel, you have to book ahead.

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON:  The Seattle Great Wheel
The Seattle Great Wheel opened just recently:  June 29, 2012.  It is, by far, the youngest Ferris Wheel in our list. However, at 175 feet tall, the Seattle Great Wheel is the largest wheel on the West Coast.  The Seattle Great Wheel has 42 cars and has the ability to carry up to 300 passengers on a daily basis.  The scenic views on top are simply beautiful that it has become a popular venue for photo-ops for engagements and weddings.

BRIGHTON, UNITED KINGDOM:  The Brighton Wheel
The next time you visit the United Kingdom and you want to get a 360-degree view of the Sussex coastline, by all means, take a ride on The Brighton Wheel.  At 165 feet, the wheel offers a stunning scenic ride.  While other Wheels offer you the city skyline, The Brighton Wheel will have you in awe of its magnificent beach views.

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA:  The Wheel of Brisbane
This famous Ferris Wheel in Australia stands next to the Queensland Performing Arts Centre.  It finds its home right in the middle of Brisbane’s entertainment melting point.  At 200 feet, The Wheel of Brisbane offers the public a stunning 360-degree view of the beautiful city.  Each of the enclosed gondolas is air-conditioned, giving the passengers a very comfortable ride.

VIENNA, AUSTRIA:  Wiener Riesenrad
Austria’s famous wheel, the Wiener Riesenrad, was first built in 1897.  Its construction was finished during Emperor Franz Josef I’s Golden Jubilee Celebration.  Unfortunately, the original wheel was burned down in a fire accident.  In 1945, the Wiener Riesenrad was rebuilt.  At 213 feet tall, the magnificent wheel offers locals and visitors a stunning view of Vienna.
