An Open-Ended Story

Seriously, people, I don’t see the point in starting something, getting hooked, spending sleepless nights obsessing over it, and just when half the world is intrigued and talking, they end it just.like.that. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you?
What am I talking about? Those damn open-ended TV series of course. Think Kyle XY and Veronica Mars, two of the most promising American TV series to date (excluding Heroes and Lost, I’m simply not a fan) and perhaps two of the most frustrating ones too. Witty at best, fast-paced, and undeniably successful, their respective stations decided not to give it a fourth season (CW “canceled” Veronica Mars, there’s a difference). Argh!!!!
Okay, I have to admit that VM can do without season four. Most of the mystery cases have been solved anyway (except for the Lily Kane murder case, still vague if you ask me). VM Season Four would probably revolve around the same concept—Hearst College, Veronica as a senior, still pinning down the Pi Sig frat boys, still rubbing people the wrong way, still teaming up with Wallace and Mac to get even, and still getting on and off with Logan Echolls.
Inja showed me a few clips of the proposed VM Season Four with our blonde anti-heroine as an FBI agent-in-training. Maybe CW was right to cancel the fourth season since the story line has somehow become predictable:
Kyle XY is a different story, literally and figuratively speaking.
I’m not really the fan of the sci-fi genre. In fact, I hate Heroes (the open-brain thing is simply too gross for words). I’ve only decided to watch Kyle XY out of curiosity. Then I got hooked.
The Season 3 Finale “Bringing the House Down” leaves too much for speculation.
Just like the debate between predestination and free will, Kyle will never be able to choose between Jesse and Amanda.
Unlike VM, there are a thousand possible angles to follow through with Kyle XY. I wonder what made the station decide to cut it just when the story is getting more and more interesting. It’s even educational and the way they portray the Tragers is quite inspiring. What the hell went wrong?
A Movie, perhaps?
Veronica Mars’ creator Rob Thomas confirmed that VM will be kicking it back on the silver screen but a movie usually spells the formal “the end” to a TV series. Gosh, I’m becoming awfully protective of my favorite bitch. If a season 4 isn’t feasible, maybe a movie isn’t so bad.
VM season one is pure genius. I’ve never seen a series more intriguing than that. Season 2 is adequate. Season 3 is okay (I hate Piz). I hope the possible movie will be able to revive the kick-ass genius that’s V.
As for Kyle XY, I hope the creators would be smart enough to offer the fourth season to another station. Seriously, a fourth season is needed.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

- Veronica will always make enemies (most of them in power) wherever she goes.
- Keith Mars will not regain his former sheriff position.
- Neptune will always be Neptune.
- Logan would probably end up as a sleazy business or an underground drug lord and Veronica will have to choose between turning him over to the police or protecting him,
- Wallace will become an engineer.
- Mac will work for Bill Gates.
- Weevil will turn over a new leaf but will get caught in the middle of a nasty bout and end up, yet again, killing another rich white boy.
- Veronica will realize that NY is one big Neptune, if you know what I mean.
- See? The only surprising element in the VM legacy is how bizarre the cases turn out to be. So maybe VM isn’t so open-ended after all.

- Who the hell is Grace Kingsley?
- If GK is Kyle’s mother, what’s her relation to Adam?
- Did Adam Bailin really die (the 2nd time) or did Latnok kill him?
- Who shot Adam Bailin in the first place? Zzyzx or Latnok?
- Did Cassidy kidnap the Tragers in the season finale?
- Where will Jesse live if she pursues her romantic relationship with Kyle?
- Is Nate working with Cassidy?
- Why does Cassidy need all the Kyle clones for? World domination?
- Did Grace Kingsley disown Cassidy for being such a sissy?
Just like the debate between predestination and free will, Kyle will never be able to choose between Jesse and Amanda.
